Dr. Bheem is a Consultant General Surgeon, with over 20 years of experience in the field of surgery, the training of junior surgeons and in academia.
A graduate of UWI (Mona/St Augustine), he furthered his training locally here in Trinidad, then went on to Australia and afterwards to the UK, where he obtained his Surgical Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.
His most recent appointment with the RHAs has been as Consultant and Head of Department of General Surgery at San Fernando General Hospital.
Dr. Bheem has also co-authored several published case studies and reports. He also actively engaged in the supervision and training of many residents in his career.
With a desire to reach and educate the wider population, he created and
initially hosted “Your Health Your Choice” for the locally based television
station ACTN; which has been instrumental in assisting in patient education
and awareness on common non communicable diseases such as Diabetes and
Hypertension. Having established this regular weekly slot for a period of approximately 10 years, he later passed on those responsibilities to Dr C.
Khan and currently Dr R. Roopnarine.

Additionally and in light of the perceived need as a result of the under-service at many institutions for Diabetic Foot Wounds or Ulcers and Wounds in general, Dr. Bheem manages a weekly Wound Clinic at VNH (see website for details).
This clinic seeks to address many problems or concerns patients may encounter on their wound care journey, using clear surgical principles and modern scientific methods, surgical procedures, dressings and discussions.
