Dr Claude Khan
Community Diabetologist.
Dr. Khan, Community Diabetologist, received his MBBS degree in 1989 from UWI. His internship at Port of Spain General Hospital led to migration to the UK in 1991. After rotations in General Medicine and Diabetes, he opted to do specialty training in Family Medicine, completing his MRCGP in 1996 eventually becoming lead partner at Kings Family Practice in Chatham, Kent. He continued to do hospital and community-based diabetes clinics and in 2006 completed a Master of Science Degree in Diabetes, with a research interest in prediabetes and the metabolic syndrome.
Dr. Khan returned to Trinidad in 2006 and joined the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) in 2008 until 2019 with a remit to develop community-based diabetes/hypertension clinics. These clinics have been established in Princes Town, Couva, Siparia and Point Fortin. He is committed to the concept of the team approach to chronic disease management and is passionate about patient empowerment. Dr. Khan and his wife Lynda have been hosting a community health television programme, Your Health, Your Choice on ACTN for the past ten years. They also are the founders of The Anapausis Centre, where a holistic approach to life is encouraged by addressing the needs of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of its clients.
